Nasceu em Salé, Marrocos, em 1973. Estudou literatura francesa enquanto morava em Rabar e escreveu os romances "An Arab Melancholia" (2008), "Le Jour du Roi" (2010) e "Infidels" (2012). "Exército da Salvação" (2013), adaptado de seu romance homônimo, é seu primeiro longa-metragem.
