Nasceu em Santiago, no Chile. Em 1970, enquanto militante do Movimento Revolucionário de Esquerda (MIR), trabalhou em La Moneda, ao lado do Presidente Salvador Allende. Depois do golpe militar de 1973, entrou para a o movimento secreto com Miguel Enriquez, seu companheiro e cabeça da Resistência, e a filha deles de quatro anos. Exilada na França, escreveu e dirigiu filmes e os documentários televisivos: State Of War: Nicaragua (1984), co-dirigido por Sylvie Blum, La Flaca Alejandra (1993), co-dirigido por Guy Girard, The True Legend Of Subcommander Marcos (1995), Le Bolero, A Loving Education (1999), The Intangible Maria Felix (2000), The Astronomer And The Indian (2002), co-dirigido por Sylvie Blum, Jose Saramago: The Length of a Memoir (2003) e My Father’s Chile (2004).
