Nasceu na França em 1966. Começou como assistente de edição em “Sob o Sol de Satã” (1987), de Maurice Pialat, e depois dirigiu seu primeiro curta, “Les Dernières Heures du Millénaire”, em 1990. Realizou, entre outros, os longas- metragens “Bar des Rails” (1992), exibido no Festival de Veneza, “Cheio de Felicidade” (1994, 19ª Mostra), vencedor do Prêmio Jean Vigo no Festival de Cannes, “O Tédio” (1998, 22ª Mostra), “Luzes Vermelhas” (2004, 28ª Mostra), “Vida Selvagem” (2014), vencedor do prêmio especial do júri no Festival de San Sebastián, “A Prece” (2018, 42ª Mostra), apresentado no Festival de Berlim, e “Feliz Aniversário” (2019).
