Nasceu em New Brunswick, no Canadá, em 1973. Após estudar cinema, realizou diversos curtas-metragens e trabalhou como crítico. Em 2005, estreou na direção de longas com “Os Estados Nórdicos”, que venceu o Leopardo de Ouro na competição de vídeo do Festival de Locarno. Entre os trabalhos de Côté estão obras como “Elle Veut le Chaos” (2008) e “Ondulações” (2010, 34ª Mostra), ambos vencedores do prêmio de direção em Locarno, “Vic+Flo Viram um Urso” (2013), ganhador do prêmio Alfred Bauer em Berlim, “Boris sans Béatrice” (2016), “Antologia da Cidade Fantasma” (2019), “Higiene Social” (2021, 45ª Mostra), vencedor do prêmio de melhor direção da seção Encontros do Festival de Berlim, “That Kind of Summer” (2022, 46ª Mostra) e “Mademoiselle Kenopsia” (2023, 47ª Mostra), exibido nos festivais de Locarno e Toronto. Seu trabalho foi alvo de mais de 40 retrospectivas em festivais ao redor do mundo e, em 2024, recebeu, em reconhecimento a sua obra, o Prêmio Albert-Tessier, a maior honraria cinematográfica do Québec.

He also made films like “All that She Wants” (2008) and “Curling” (2010, 34th Mostra), both winners of best direction at Locarno, “Vic and Flo Saw a Bear” (2013), which won the Alfred Bauer Award at the Berlinale, “Boris without Béatrice” (2016), “Ghost Town Anthology” (2019), “Social Hygiene” (2021, 45th Mostra), winner of best director award in the Encounters section at the Berlin International Film Festival, “That Kind of Summer” (2022, 46th Mostra) and “Mademoiselle Kenopsia” (2023, 47th Mostra), presented at film festivals such as Locarno and Toronto. His work has been the subject of more than 40 retrospectives at festivals around the world, and in 2024, he received the Albert-Tessier Prize, Québec’s highest cinematic honor, in recognition of his work.
