Nasceu em Fenyang, na província de Shanxi, na China, em 1970. Um dos mais importantes cineastas em atividade, realizou, entre outros, os filmes “Artesão Pickpocket” (1997), premiado no Festival de Berlim, “Plataforma” (2000), premiado no Festival de Veneza, “O Mundo” (2004), que recebeu o prêmio da crítica na 29ª Mostra, “Em Busca da Vida” (2006), vencedor do Leão de Ouro do Festival de Veneza, “24 City” (2008), “Um Toque de Pecado” (2013), prêmio de melhor roteiro no Festival de Cannes, e “Amor Até as Cinzas” (2018), todos exibidos na Mostra. Durante a 31ª Mostra, em 2007, o cineasta veio a São Paulo para apresentar uma retrospectiva de sua obra. Na 38ª Mostra, em 2014, foi homenageado com o Prêmio Leon Cakoff. Em 2020, na 44ª Mostra, Jia Zhangke assinou o pôster da edição, além de exibir o curta “A Visita” (2020) e o documentário “Nadando Até o Mar se Tornar Azul” (2020).

During the 31st Mostra, in 2007, the filmmaker came to São Paulo to present a retrospective of his work, and at the 38th Mostra, in 2014, he was honored with the Leon Cakoff Prize. In 2020, at the 44th Mostra, Jia Zhangke signed the art of the edition’s poster and also exhibited the short “Visit” (2020) and the feature film “Swimming Out Till the Sea Turns Blue” (2020).
