Nasceu em Emden, na Alemanha, em 1940. Estudou Música e Teatro em Hanover, na Alemanha. Em 1970, fundou sua própria produtora, focada na produção de documentários e longas-metragens. Dirigiu os longas "Under the Pavement Lies the Beach" (1975), "Heinrich" (1977), "Alemanha Pálida Mãe" (1980, 5ª Mostra), "Laputa" (1986), "Appletrees" (1992) e "Colour of Soul" (2003).

In 1970 she founded her own film production company, devoting her attention to documentaries as well as to fiction films.
