Nascido em Praga em 1934, Jan Svankmajer estudou na Advanced School of Applied Art e na School of Fine Arts. Seu primeiro curta de animação, "The Last Trick of Mr. Schwarzewald and Mr. Edgar", misturava atores e desenhos numa surrealista montagem. Realizador de 26 curtas-metragens, estreou na direção de longas com "Alice", em 1987. Em 1994, realizou seu segundo longa "Fausto". Premiado com o prêmio do Júri Jovem do 49º Festival de Locarno, "Conspiradores do Prazer" é seu terceiro longa.
Born in Prague in 19345, Jan Svankmajer studied in the Advanced School of Applied Art and in the School of Fine Arts. His first short film in animation, "The last Trick of Mr. Schwarzewald and Mr Edgar" was a blend of actors and cartoon in a surrealistic montage. He made 26 short films, and his first feature film, "Alice", in 1987. His second feature film, "Faust", is from 1994. Awarded a prize by the Young Jury of the 49th Locarno Festival, "Conspirators of Pleasure" is his third feature film.
