Nasceu na Geórgia em 1973. Estudou produção de cinema na Universidade do Estado da Geórgia, em Tbilisi, mas por causa da guerra começou a trabalhar como jornalista. Depois disso, estudou direção em Moscou e se formou em cinema na Tisch School of the Arts, em Nova York. Dirigiu os longas ficcionais "Street Days" (2010) e "Blind Dates" (2013), ambos exibidos na Mostra. Realizou também os documentários "Women from Georgia" (2009) e "Gogita’s New Life" (2016).

Later, Koguashvili studied film directing in Moscow and graduated in the film program from the Tisch School of the Arts Graduate, in New York.
