Graduou-se no Higher Institute of Cinema em 1999 e começou a trabalhar como assistente de diretores egípcios como Sherif Arafa, Samir Seif, Daoud Abdelsayed e Khairy Beshara. Dirigiu mais de sessenta comerciais para empresas internacionais. Fez os curtas Cairo (1997), End of the World (1998), Abul el Rish (1999), El Sheikh Sheikha (1999) e Lilly (2001), vencedor de diversos prêmios, entre eles o do público no Festival de Clermont-Ferrand. Participou do primeiro campus de talentos do Festival de Berlim, em 2003. Estréia em longa-metragem com O Edifício Yacoubian, que foi considerado o melhor primeiro trabalho nos Festivais de Tribeca, Nova York, e no de Montreal.

He directed over sixty commercials for international companies. He made short films: Cairo (1997), End of the World (1998), Abul el Rish (1999), El Sheikh Sheikha (1999), and Lilly (2001), winner of several awards, among these, Prize from the Public at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. He took part of the first campus for talent at the 2003 Berlin Film Festival. The Yacoubian Building is his first feature, considered the Best First Film at the Tribeca, New York and at the Montreal Film Festivals.
