Diretor, roteirista e produtor nascido no Chile em 1976. Estudou comunicação audiovisual na Universidade de Artes, Ciências e Comunicação de Santiago. Estreou na direção de longas em 2005 com “Fuga”, premiado no Festival de Málaga. Dirigiu três filmes sobre a ditadura de Augusto Pinochet: “Tony Manero” (2008, 32ª Mostra), “Post Mortem” (2010, 36ª Mostra) e “No” (2012, vencedor do prêmio do público na 36ª Mostra e obra que abriu a edição), premiados em festivais como os de Cannes, Havana, Roterdã e Turim. Em seguida, realizou “O Clube” (2015), pelo qual recebeu o grande prêmio do júri no Festival de Berlim, “Neruda” (2016), “Jackie” (2016), que venceu o prêmio de roteiro no Festival de Veneza e foi indicado a três Oscars, “Ema” (2019), “Spencer” (2021), também indicado ao Oscar, e “O Conde” (2023), ganhador do prêmio de melhor roteiro em Veneza e igualmente indicado ao Oscar.
Born in Chile in 1976. He studied audiovisual communication at the University for the Arts, Sciences, and Communication in Santiago. Larraín made his feature-length debut with “Fuga”, in 2005, awarded in Málaga Film Festival. He then directed three films about the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet: “Tony Manero” (2008, 32nd Mostra), “Post Mortem” (2010, 36th Mostra) and “No” (2012, winner of the audience award at the 36th Mostra and the opening film of the edition), awarded at film festivals like Cannes, Havana, Rotterdam and Turim. He also made “The Club” (2015), grand jury prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, “Neruda” (2016), “Jackie” (2016), which won the screenplay award at the Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for three Academy Awards, “Ema” (2019), “Spencer” (2021), which earned another Academy Award nomination, and “El Conde” (2023), which also won the screenplay award at Venice and also Academy Award nominee.
