Nasceu na Itália em 1945. Crítico de cinema e documentarista, dirigiu os longas-metragens "Golpe no Coração" (1983) e "As Portas da Justiça" (1990). Em 1992, recebeu o Prêmio do Júri em Cannes por "Ladrões de Crianças" (1992). Ainda dirigiu "América – O Sonho de Chegar" (1994, 19ª Mostra), ano em que fez parte do Júri Internacional e recebeu o Prêmio da Crítica em São Paulo, e "Assim é que se Ria" (1998), exibido na 23ª Mostra e vencedor do Leão de Ouro em Veneza. "O Intrépido" (2013) é seu último longa-metragem.
Born in Italy in 1945. A film critic and documentary filmmaker, he directed the feature films "Colpire al Cuore" (1983) and "Open Doors" (1990). In 1992, he was awarded the Jury Prize in Cannes for "The Stolen Children" (1992). He has also directed "L’America" (1994, 19th Mostra), the year in which he was part of the International Jury and was awarded the Critics Prize in São Paulo, and "Così Ridevano" (1998), exhibited at the 23rd Mostra and winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. "L’Intrepide" (2013) is his latest feature film.
