Nasceu no Japão em 1975. Estudou na Universidade de Gales e mudou-se para a Indonesia. Teve sua estreia na direção com "Banyu Biru" (2005), seguido por "Ruang" (2006), "Badai Pasti Berlalu" (2007), "Namaku Dick" (2008), "Ruma Maida" (2009) e "Lovely Man" (2011). "Algo no Caminho" (2013) é seu sétimo longa-metragem.
