Nasceu em 1946 em Abadan, Irã. Foi operador de câmera, assistente de direção e escreveu vários roteiros antes de dirigir o primeiro filme, "Adieu, Friend", em 1971. Foi para os EUA em 1975, mas retornou ao Irã para trabalhar no Instituto de Teerã para Crianças e Adolescentes. Dirigiu os longas-metragens "Tangsir" (1973), "Água, Vento, Areia" (1989, 14ª Mostra), "Manhattan By Numbers" (1993), "A, B, C... Manhattan" (1997), "Marathon" (2002), "Sound Barrier" (2005) e "Vegas: Based on a True Story" (2008).
