Em sua 32ª edição, a Mostra Internacional de Cinema apresentou, de 17 a 30 de outubro, grandes retrospectivas dos primeiros filmes do mestre sueco Ingmar Bergman e do diretor japonês Kihachi Okamoto. O alemão Wim Wenders, diretor de clássicos como Asas do Desejo e Paris, Texas, esteve em São Paulo e escolheu alguns de seus filmes recentes preferidos na sessão “Carta Branca a Wim Wenders”. O diretor também ganhou o Troféu Humanidade da 32ª edição da Mostra. Outro convidado especial foi o britânico Hugh Hudson, que teve exibida uma seleção de seus filmes (Carruagens de Fogo; Greystoke - A Lenda de Tarzan) e debateu com o público o clássico Revolução Revisitada, exibido em cópia restaurada. O jovem cineasta argentino Pablo Trapero, um dos expoentes do novo cinema latino-americano, veio à capital paulista acompanhar a exibição de seus cinco longas-metragens, incluindo Mundo Grua e o mais recente, Leonera. Os atores Benicio del Toro e Rodrigo Santoro também vieram a São Paulo prestigiar a primeira exibição do épico em duas partes Che, dirigido por Steven Soderbergh, que rendeu ao primeiro a Palma de Melhor Ator no Festival de Cannes. Entre as apresentações especiais, Berlin Alexanderplatz, a série em 14 episódios dirigida pelo alemão R.W. Fassbinder; uma cópia restaurada de O Poderoso Chefão, de Francis Ford Coppola; e dois clássicos do cinema mudo, Poil de Carotte e O Homem que Ri, exibidos com acompanhamento musical do grupo Octuor de France. Os grandes vencedores da 32ª Mostra foram o drama alemão O Estranho em Mim, de Emily Atef, que levou o Troféu Bandeira Paulista (Prêmio do Júri) e o prêmio de melhor atriz (Susanne Wolff). O público escolheu o indiano Jodhaa Akbar, de Ashutosh Gowariker. A crítica premiou o português Aquele Querido Mês de Agosto, de Miguel Gomes. A cerimônia de abertura teve a exibição de Terra Vermelha, de Marco Bechis, com a presença dos índios guaranis-kaiowás que participaram do filme. A cerimônia de encerramento contou com show da atriz e cantora portuguesa Maria de Medeiros.

In its 32nd edition, São Paulo International Film Festival showcased extensive retrospectives of the early films of Swedish master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman and Japanese director Kihachi Okamoto. The German director Wim Wenders, whose classics include Wings of Desire and Paris, Texas, was in São Paulo and chose some of his favorite films for the program "Wim Wenders` Carte Blanche". The director also received the Humanitarian Award at the 32nd edition of the festival. Another special guest was British director Hugh Hudson, with a selection of his films being screened - Chariots of Fire and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. He also took part in a public debate on Revolution: Revisited, which was shown in a restored version. The young Argentinean filmmaker Pablo Trapero, one of Latin American Cinema`s new exponents, came to São Paulo along with five of his feature-length films, including Crane World and his more recent film Lion`s Den. Actors Benicio del Toro and Rodrigo Santoro also came to São Paulo in honor of the first screening in Brazil of the two-part epic Che, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which won Del Toro the award for Best Actor at Cannes Festival. Among the special presentations were Berlin Alexanderplatz, the 14-episode series directed by German filmmaker R.W. Fassbinder; a restored copy of Francis Ford Coppola`s The Godfather; two Silent Cinema classics, Poil de Carotte and The Man Who Laughs, both of which were accompanied by live scores from the band Octuor de France. Among the major winners from the 32nd Mostra was the German drama The Stranger in Me, by Emily Atef, taking home the Bandeira Paulista Award (the Jury Prize) and the award for Best Actress (Susanne Wolff). The public chose the Indian film Jodhaa Ajbar, by Ashutosh Gowariker, whilst the critics picked the Portuguese film Our Beloved Month of August. Marco Bechis` Birdwatchers was screened at the opening ceremony, attended by the members of the Guarani-Kaiowá tribe who took part in the film. The closing ceremony included a concert from Portuguese actress and singer Maria de Medeiros.
