Iara Lee is a Brazilian of Korean descent, an activist, and a filmmaker. She worked as a producer of Mostra from 1984 to 1989, when she moved to New York City. She has directed short and feature-length documentaries including "Synthetic Pleasures" (1995), screened at the 19th Mostra; "Modulations" (1998), screened at the 22nd Mostra; "Beneath the Borqa in Afghanistan" (2002); "Battle for the Xingu" (2009), screened at the 33rd Mostra; "Cultures of Resistance" (2010), screened at the 34th Mostra; "The Suffering Grasses: When Elephants Fight, It Is the Grass That Suffers" (2012), screened at the 36th Mostra; "K2 and the Invisible Footman" (2015), screened at the 39th Mostra; and "Life Is Waiting: Referendum and Resistance in Western Sahara" (2015), screened at the 39th Mostra. She participates in the project Cultures of Resistance, an activist network that brings together artists and change-makers from around the world.


Iara Lee é ativista e cineasta brasileira de ascendência coreana. Foi produtora da Mostra entre 1984 e 1989, quando se mudou para Nova York. Entre curtas e longas-metragens, dirigiu os documentários "Prazeres Sintéticos" (1995), exibido na 19ª Mostra; "Modulações - Cinema para os Ouvidos" (1998), exibido na 22ª Mostra; "Beneath the Borqa in Afghanistan" (2002); "Batalhas pelo Xingu" (2009), exibido na 33ª Mostra; "Culturas de Resistência" (2010), exibido na 34ª Mostra; "Quando Elefantes Lutam, É a Grama que Sofre" (2012), exibido na 36ª Mostra; "K2 e os Lacaios Invisíveis" (2015), exibido na 39ª Mostra; e "A Vida Está Esperando: Referendo e Resistência no Saara Ocidental" (2015), exibido na 39ª Mostra. Ela participa do projeto Cultures of Resistance, rede que reúne artistas e ativistas ao redor do mundo.
