Born in 1942 in Spain. He studied Philosophy in Madrid and graduated in Film in 1970. He worked as a screenwriter for several films, such as "The Trouts" (1978) by José Luis García Sánchez, before making his directorial debut in 1973 with "Habla, Mudita" (1973). Since the film "Demons in the Garden" (1982), his style has been compared to that of Federico Fellini. "The Most Beautiful Night" (1984), his previous film, was screened at the 9th São Paulo International Film Festival. "Half of Heaven" (1986) won the San Sebastián International Film Festival in 1986 for Best Film and Best Actress (Ángela Molina).
