Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1930, he graduated in architecture from the Cairo University. In 1956, he went to England to study theatre. With the support of the Italian director Roberto Rossellini (1906-1977), with whom he had made contact in 1967, Salam made the feature "The Night of Counting the Years" (1969). He is also the director of the short film "The Eloquent Peasant" (1969). Died in Cairo in 1986 at the age of 56.
Nasceu em Alexandria, no Egito, em 1930. Formou-se em arquitetura na Universidade do Cairo e, em 1956, foi para a Inglaterra estudar teatro. Com a ajuda do cineasta italiano Roberto Rossellini (1906-1977), com quem havia tido contato em 1967, fez o longa-metragem "A Múmia – A Noite da Passagem dos Anos" (1969). Também é diretor do curta "O Camponês Eloquente" (1969). Morreu no Cairo em 1986 aos 56 anos.
