The year of “Nohoi Oron”, by Peter Brosens and Drijkhandyn Turmunkh, a Mongolian sensation that won the Critics Award, and became a cult classic of the MOSTRA. This edition was marked by other three incredible hits, “La Pomme”, by the child Samira Makhmalbaf, “Train de Vie”, by Radu Mihaleanu and “Festen”, by Thomas Viterberg. This edition’s artwork and poster were created by Takeshi Kitano.

A 22ª Mostra foi a edição de O Estado do Cão, de Peter Brosens e Drijkhandyn Turmunkh, sensação que veio da Mongólia e ganhou o Prêmio da Crítica, virando um clássico cult da Mostra. Outros três sucessos marcaram esta edição, A Maçã, da então menina Samira Makhmalbaf, O Trem da Vida, de Radu Mihaleanu, e Festa de Família, de Thomas Viterberg. As artes e o pôster de 1998 foram criadas por Takeshi Kitano. A 22ª Mostra Internacional de Cinema em São Paulo aconteceu na capital paulista de 16 a 30 de outubro.
