Awarded the Palme d`Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1978, this drama by Olmi shows the simple life of peasants who try to give value and meaning to their daily experiences. From autumn to spring, when work in the fields decreased, they would revisit their fears and hopes both in the face of everyday occurrences and more important events: the birth of a child, a wedding, or a regional celebration. At times, however, the will and whims of the boss could extinguish the most common feelings of those workers.
