Three young Iranian girls have the joy for living brutally cut short. One of them, Bemani, is obliged, through poverty, to marry a man much older than she is and looks on helplessly at the agonies of her two friends who, in despair at the oppression, kill themselves by setting fire to their own clothing. In the lucid view of Bemani, they were the victims of the violence and rigid laws of a world of men represented by their fathers and brothers. She is not, however, to submit passively to the fate they would like to impose on her, and she decides to rebel against the injustice and cruelty that surround her. “This film may, perhaps, have the power to call the attention of the world to the faith and mode of life of people in a region where social disorganization and prejudice take their toll on the lives of individuals with every passing day”, says the director thus committed.
Três jovens garotas iranianas têm o prazer de viver brutalmente solapado. Uma delas, Bemani, obrigada pela pobreza a se casar com um homem bem mais velho que ela, assiste, sem poder fazer nada, à agonia de suas duas amigas, que por desespero da opressão se imolam ateando fogo às próprias vestes. Na lúcida visão de Bemani, elas foram vítimas da violência e das rígidas leis de um mundo masculino, representado por seus pais e irmãos. Contudo, ela não vai se submeter passivamente ao destino que lhe estão querendo impor e resolve se rebelar contra a injustiça e a crueldade que a cercam. “Este filme talvez tenha o poder de chamar a atenção do mundo para a fé e o modo de vida das pessoas de uma região onde a desorganização social e o preconceito cobram a vida de indivíduos a cada dia”, afirma o diretor engajado Dariush Mehrjui.
