A drama set in an orphanage where young Pavla is sent. There, she receives special attention from Jarmila, a young educator who tries to spark her interest in her new surroundings. The girl becomes attached to Jarmila and dreams that they might one day live together, far away. However, an older educator disapproves of the attention Jarmila devotes to Pavla and suggests she distance herself from the girl. Matters take a turn for the worse when, one night, a teacher catches the girl playing "wedding" with her roommates. In a state of despair, Pavla runs away and attempts to end her life.
Drama ambientado em um orfanato, para onde a pequena Pavla é enviada. No local, ela recebe atenção especial de uma jovem educadora, Jarmila, que tenta despertar nela algum interesse pelo ambiente. A menina apega-se a Jarmila e sonha que, um dia, poderão viver juntas, longe dali. Uma das educadoras mais velhas, no entanto, reprova a dedicação de Jarmila a Pavla e sugere que ela se afaste da criança.
