Interned in an insane asylum, Marta spends her days trying to convince the psychiatrist she has recovered from the passion that led her to despair and madness. When she finally does succeed, she returns to New York. While she tries to re-arrange her life, a former lover crosses her path promising he will correct the errors of the past and bring her the hope she has always dreamed of. Soon, however, Marta turns suspicious at the way he behaves. Consumed by jealousy, she can not distinguish between her own imagination and the facts around her. One day, her lover is wounded by a gunshot and Marta, who had often had the desire to kill him, relives the circumstances that triggered her psychic disorders.
