In the wake of years lost to the strains of her father’s care, Catherine feels suffocated by the contrast between her feelings and real life. She escapes to Brazil, hoping to reconnect with her sister . Finally unburdened, yet still unable to overcome her anxiety, she stumbles into an improbable relationship with an attractive young man. Gil represents a second chance to experience the life she could have lived, had things been different. Depois de anos cuidando do pai, Catherine passa a se sentir sufocada pelo contraste entre seus sentimentos e a realidade. Ela foge para o Brasil esperando se reconectar com a irmã. Mais livre, mas ainda incapaz de superar a ansiedade, Catherine começa uma relação com Gil, que representa uma segunda chance e oportunidade de experimentar a vida que poderia ter vivido. Determinada a recomeçar, ela precisa decidir se continua com sua reinvenção, o que pode levá-la a um fim violento e irrevogável. Baseado no romance homônimo do escritor francês Jean-Christophe Rufin.
