In the main square of a mining town, there is a cross and the statue of a saint - the local miners consider it their protector. One day, the cross is taken down for repairs, and the statue mysteriously disappears. The citizens notice that there is a strange man in town, and begin to believe he is the saint, in his mortal form, who is living amongst them.
