No interior da Bavária, Michael Kohlhaas, o drama histórico de Henrich von Kleist (1777-1811) começa a ser rodado. Mas ao invés de filmar um grande épico com figurino ostensivo, homens adultos vestidos com macacões azuis ou ternos correm pela floresta lutando com armas imaginárias. O jovem diretor Lehman está lutando para dirigir seu filme, apesar de todo o patrocínio ter sido cancelado após o primeiro dia de gravações. Entusiasmado, ele apela para a imaginação de sua equipe. Mas vozes discordantes se levantam, e tudo parece sair do controle.
Deep in the Bavarian countryside Heinrich von Kleist`s historical drama Michael Kohlhaas is being shot. But instead of shooting a huge epic with impressive costumes, grown-up men in blue overalls and suits run through the woods and fight with imaginary weapons. The young director Lehman is fighting for his vision, for his film, although all funds have been cancelled after the first day of shooting. With enthusiasm Lehmann appeals to the imagination of his team. But negative voices arise and it all seems to get out of control.
