Na virada do século 20, o jovem Nicolai viaja de Moscou até Paris para estudar medicina e aprender a falar francês. No caminho, ele para num hotel, que também serve como bordel e sanatório, perto de Leipzig. Lá, ele conhece a bela cortesã Elise e se apaixona profundamente por ela, prolongando sua visita. Depois de alguns dias, fica óbvio que seu amor está ameaçado: Elise "pertence" ao velho conde, que também é dono do hotel.
Around the turn of the twentieth century, young Nicolai is travelling from Moscow to Paris to study medicine and learn to speak French. On the way, he stops at a hotel, also serving as a brothel and sanatorium, near Leipzig. There, he meets the beautiful courtesan Elise and falls deeply in love with her, prolonging his stay. After a few days, it becomes obvious that this love is threatened: Elise "belongs" to the old Count, who also owns the hotel.
