Ele era um escritor que queria pesquisar sobre o futuro, mesmo que aquilo que procura, na verdade, tenha se perdido no passado. Um misterioso trem transporta-o a 2046. Todos os passageiros desse trem têm a mesma intenção – recuperar a memória perdida. Dizia-se que em 2046 tudo permanecia intocado. Porém ninguém tinha certeza se isso era verdade, pois jamais alguém havia voltado dali, exceto uma pessoa que escolheu sair e mudar. O escritor tem sua chance ao procurar a pista de três mulheres que mudaram sua vida. E 2046 é um ano do calendário, mas também o número de um quarto de hotel, onde amantes se encontram.
He is a writer who wishes to research the future, even though what he seeks has, in fact, been lost in the past. A mysterious train transports him to the year 2046. All of the passengers on the train are bent on the same intent - namely, to recover memories that were lost. It has been said that, in 2046, all will remain untouched. However, no one is certain whether this is, in fact, true, for no one has ever returned from there, except for one person who decided to exit and change. The writer stands a chance in his search for clues of three women who changed his life. And 2046 is the calendar year and, also, the number of a hotel room where lovers meet.
