The trajectory of the Orozco family synthesizes a fragment of Peruvian history. The narrative begins in 1850, during the era of slavery, continues through the rise of agro-industrial capitalism in 1895, and culminates in the formation of the first labor organizations and demands in 1919. Vicente Orozco, a peasant from the northern highlands, becomes a worker and is eventually deported due to his rebelliousness, moving to Lima. Twenty years later, working as a shoemaker, he stands in defense of labor organizations.
