Sinopse
O poeta Yusuf retorna à cidade natal, que não visitava há anos, por causa da morte de sua mãe. Uma jovem, Ayla, espera por ele numa casa em ruínas. Yusuf não sabia da existência dessa parente distante que viveu com sua mãe por cinco anos. Ela precisa lhe pedir algo. Yusuf é obrigado a executar o sacrifício que sua mãe Zehra não pôde completar antes de morrer. Ele concorda assim que percebe ser incapaz de resistir ao ritmo calmo da vida rural, aos espaços ocupados por fantasmas e personagens de velhas amantes e amigos e ao sentimento de culpa que o domina. Yusuf e Ayla viajam até um túmulo santo, local sagrado há cerca de três ou quatro horas dali, para a tradicional cerimônia de sacrifício. Como não conseguem localizar a manada da qual será selecionado o animal a ser sacrificado, ambos precisam passar a noite num hotel no Lago da Cratera. Yusuf e Ayla aproximam-se um do outro por causa da atmosfera criada por uma festa de casamento que acontece no hotel. Enquanto que a neve que cai cala a culpa, o lugar para o qual voltarão não mais será aquela velha cidade.
Poet Yusuf returns to his childhood hometown, which he hadn’t visited for years, upon his mother’s death. A young girl, Ayla awaits him in a crumbling house. Yusuf has been unaware of the existence of this distant relation who had been living with his mother for five years. Ayla has something to ask of Yusuf. Yusuf is obliged to perform the sacrifice his mother Zehra had been prevented by death from fulfilling. Yusuf agrees as he finds himself unable to withstand the passive rhythm of rural life, the spaces imbued with the ghosts and personages of old lovers and friends, nor against the overriding feeling of guilt. Yusuf and Ayla set off for the saint’s tomb, some three or four hours away, for the traditional sacrifice ceremony. Unable to locate the herd amongst which the sacrificial animal was to be selected, they have to spend the night in a hotel by the Crater Lake. Yusuf and Ayla are drawn closer together by the atmosphere of the wedding party at the hotel. While the falling snow blankets guilt, the place to which they are returning will no longer be that old town.
