Alexander tem 30 anos e nunca se apaixonou —ou nunca conseguiu se apaixonar. Ele, então, vê em Paula, uma atriz de teatro, a possibilidade de compartilhar um futuro com alguém. Porém, antes que pudesse realmente conhecê-la, Paula morre em um acidente. A perda repentina leva Alexander a um luto profundo. Logo, ele se vê em uma situação delicada: ao conhecer Marlene, irmã de Paula, o rapaz é erroneamente acolhido pela família como se fosse o namorado da falecida. Curioso para saber mais sobre a mulher que poderia ter amado, Alexander leva a farsa adiante. Ao aproximar-se de Marlene, no entanto, ele é tomado por um sentimento que contradiz a imagem que costumava ter do amor perfeito.
Thirty-year-old Alexander never fell in love —or had never been able to fall in love. He finally sees in Paula, a vaudeville artist, the possibility to share his future with another person. However, before he gets to know her, Paula dies in an accident. The sudden loss leads Alexander to a deep grief. Soon, he finds himself in a delicate situation: he meets Marlene, Paula’s sister, and is mistakenly welcomed into the family as the deceased’s boyfriend. Curious to know more about the woman he could have loved, Alexander keeps the farce. When he gets closer to Marlene, he is taken by a feeling that contradicts the image of perfect love that he used to have.
