Nasceu em Pécs, na Hungria, em 1955. Formou-se em direção cinematográfica em 1981 na Academia de Cinema e Televisão de Budapeste. De 1979 a 1980, foi membro do Béla Balázs Studio e, em 1981, ajudou a fundar o Studio Társulás. Fundou e dirigiu a film.factory na Escola de Ciências e Tecnologia de Sarajevo entre 2012 e 2016. Born in Pécs, Hungary, in 1955, he graduated in film direction in 1981 at the Film and Television Academy in Budapest. From 1979 to 1980, he was a member of Béla Balázs Studio and, in 1981, was one of the founders of Studio Társulás. He founded and directed film.factory at Sarajevo School for Science and Technology from 2012 to 2016. One of the most important directors of Hungarian cinema, he directed, among others, "Family Nest" (1977); "The Prefab People" (1982); "Almanac of Fall" (1984), awarded at the Locarno Film Festival; "Damnation" (1988), screened at the 18th Mostra; "City Life" (1989), screened at the 14th Mostra; "Werckmeister Harmonies" (2000); "Prologue" (2004), screened at the 28th Mostra; "The Man from London" (2007), screened at the 31st Mostra; and "The Turin Horse" (2011), which received the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. "Satantango" was exhibited at the 18th Mostra.
