Nasceu em Moscou em 1972 e formou-se em teoria do cinema no Instituto Estatal Russo de Cinema (VGIK), na capital russa. Com Alexei Popogrebski, codirigiu o documentário "Mimokhod" (1997) e o longa-metragem "Estradas para Koktebel" (2003, 28ª Mostra). "Uma Vida Longa e Feliz" (2013) encerra a trilogia iniciada com os longas Flutuando (2006, 30ª Mostra) e "Help Gone Mad" (2009).
