Nasceu em Dorgali, na Itália, em 1965. Formou-se no Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia em Roma. Dirigiu curtas-metragens, entre eles "Miguel" (2000) e "Il Mare" (2005), antes de realizar seu primeiro longa-metragem, "Ballo a tre passi" (2003), premiado no Festival de Veneza. Também dirigiu os longas-metragens "Sonetaula" (2008) e "Tajabone" (2010). "Bellas Mariposas" (2012) é seu quarto longa-metragem.
