Born in New York in 1942, he studied and taught at the New York University Film School. He gained recognition with "Mean Streets" (1973), and in 1976, he won the Palme d`Or at the Cannes Film Festival for "Taxi Driver" (1976, 35th Mostra). His most important films include "Raging Bull" (1980), "After Hours" (1985, 10th Mostra), "Goodfellas" (1990), and "Casino" (1995). The musical documentary "The Blues: Feel Like Going Home" (2003, 27th Mostra) was exhibited at the Mostra. "The Departed" (2006, 30th Mostra) won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. He also directed "Shine a Light" (2008, 36th Mostra), "A Letter to Elia" (2010, 35th Mostra), "The Wolf of Wall Street" (2013), among others.
