A figura do embaixador brasileiro Sergio Vieira de Mello, morto num atentado à sede da ONU em Bagdá, em agosto de 2003, é recuperada através de uma série de entrevistas, realizadas em oito países. Quarenta pessoas que o conheceram recordam o trabalho feito por este diplomata, que lutava contra a burocracia e tinha esperança na renovação das Nações Unidas, com particular destaque para suas missões em países como Moçambique, onde ele morou dois anos, Camboja (onde ficou um ano) e o Timor Leste (seu endereço por dois anos e meio). O atentado que o matou no Iraque também marcou o fim de uma era de ajuda humanitária internacional e o começo de novas incertezas.
The figure of the Brazilian ambassador Sergio Vieira de Mello, killed in a terrorist attack on the UN headquarters in Baghdad in August, 2003, is brought to life through a series of interviews conducted in eight countries. Forty people that knew him talk of the work of this diplomat who fought against bureaucracy and for a renovation of the United Nations Organisation, with particular emphasis on his missions in countries such as Mozambique, where he lived for two years, Cambodia (one year) and Timor East (his home for two and a half years). The attack which killed him in Iraq marked the end of an era of international humanitarian aid and ushered in one of new uncertainty.
