Arte por Amos Gitai
Duas importantes exposições fotográficas marcaram esta edição. A primeira, de Amos Gitai, que assinou as artes da Mostra, presenciou uma retrospectiva de sua obra e lançou o livro Amos Gitai e Serge Toubiana. A outra, fez parte de uma grande homenagem a Abbas Kiarostami, que veio contemplar a estreia mundial do filme a ele dedicado —Bem-Vindo a São Paulo— e ministrou uma oficina de prática de cinema, além de participar do lançamento do seu livro Abbas Kiarostami. Outros grandes sucessos da 28ª Mostra foram a retrospectiva do canadense Guy Maddin e o inesquecível show de encerramento com a musa Jane Birkin. Foi nesta edição que a Mostra instituiu o Prêmio Humanidade, cedido ao mestre Manoel de Oliveira. Bahman Gohbadi revelou-se uma rara unanimidade do público e do júri da Mostra, vencendo novamente o Prêmio do Júri com Tartarugas Podem Voar. A 28ª edição da Mostra Internacional de Cinema em São Paulo aconteceu na capital paulista de 22 de outubro a 4 de novembro de 2004.

Artwork by Amos Gitai
This edition was marked by two important photography exhibits. The first one, by Amos Gitai, who was responsible for the MOSTRA’s artworks, displayed a retrospective of his works and released the book “Amos Gitai e Serge Toubiana”. The other one was part of a great tribute to Abbas Kiarostami, who came to see the world premiere of the film dedicated to him - “WELCOME TO SÃO PAULO”. He gave a movie practice workshop and also participated in the release of his book “Abbas Kiarostami”. Other great hits of the 28th MOSTRA were the retrospective of Canadian GUY MADDIN and the memorable closing concert with muse Jane Birkin. It was in this edition that the MOSTRA created the Humanity Award, handed out to master Manoel de Oliveira. Bahman Gohbadi proved to be a rare unanimity between the MOSTRA’s public and jury, once again receiving the Jury Award for “TURTLES CAN FLY”.
