Sinopse
Dois irmãos, Philippe e André, levam existências completamente à parte. Trabalhando à noite como operador de telemarketing, durante o dia Philippe só tem pensamentos para sua tese de doutorado, que gira em torno da filosofia da cultura científica e das motivações narcisísticas da exploração espacial. O irmão mais novo, André, é gay e trabalha como meteorologista de TV numa emissora local. A morte de sua mãe impõe uma necessidade de reaproximação aos dois, sempre diferentes e rivais em tudo.
Mas a retomada de contato não tem como ser pacífica. Os dois discutem sobre a divisão dos bens e objetos deixados pela mãe, voltando à tona as memórias de sua infância. Para piorar, azedam-se as relações entre André e seu namorado Carl e reacende-se a mágoa entre Philippe e sua ex, Natalie. O clima de conflito nada pode ajudar a concentração de Philippe para escrever sua tese. Mais do que nunca, sua eterna preocupação em encontrar um sentido para o universo e descobrir qual o seu lugar dentro dele parecem essenciais.
Este novo trabalho do canadense Robert Lepage traduz com grande inventividade de imagens a divisão interior de seu protagonista e do irmão, ambos interpretados pelo diretor. A trilha sonora é de Benoît Jutras, habitual colaborador do Cirque du Soleil.
Two brothers, Philippe and André, lead a completely separate existence. Philippe works at night as a telemarketing operator and during the day thinks only of his doctorate thesis that deals with the philosophy of scientific culture and the narcissistic motivations behind exploring space. His younger brother, André, is gay and works as a metereorologist for a local TV broadcasting station. Death of their mother means the need for reapproximation between both, invariably different and rivals in all.
The retake in contact, however, can hardly be peaceful. The brothers quarrel over the dividing up of assets and objects left by the mother, bringing back childhood memories. To make matters worse the relationship between André and his boyfriend Carl go sour and the resentment between Philippe and his ex-girlfriend Natalie, is exacerbated, The atmosphere of conflict can hardly help Philippe?s concentration to write his thesis. More than ever, his constant concern in finding a sense to the universe and discovering what his place is in it, seem essential.
This new film by Canadian Robert Lepage translates, with great inventiveness of image, the interior division of the main character and of his brother, both played by the director. The sound track is by Benoît Jutras, collaborator of the Cirque du Soleil.
