Sinopse
Os protagonistas do documentário Memórias em Super 8 são os músicos da banda No Smoking, que tem entre seus integrantes o diretor iugoslavo de cinema (e guitarrista) Emir Kusturica (Quando Papai Saiu em Viagem de Negócios, Underground e outros). A banda foi fundada em 1980 pelo cantor Nelle Karajilic e procurou, por meio do rock’n’roll, encontrar as raízes da música dos Bálcãs. O primeiro disco saiu em 1984, com grande sucesso, mas em um de seus concertos, uma ironia de Nelle com a morte do presidente Tito fez com que a turnê fosse interrompida e os discos retirados das lojas. A banda voltou à ativa em 1986, já com o guitarrista Emir Kusturica em sua formação. “No Smoking é mais que uma simples banda de rock’n’roll. Ela mudou a entonação e linguagem da música não apenas em Sarajevo, mas em toda a Iugoslávia. Todos os estilos de música dos Bálcãs deixaram sua marca no trabalho da banda. Trata-se de uma explosiva mistura de jazz e música cigana em que os trompetes sérvios e melancólicas influências asiáticas podem ser encontradas”, diz Kusturica. Memórias em Super 8 é um road-movie entre amigos, que capta toda a atmosfera da turnê européia do grupo em 2000 e as “trajetórias solo” de cada um de seus músicos.
The main characters in the film Super 8 Stories are the musicians from the No Smoking band - among them, Yugoslav film director (and guitarrist) Emir Kusturica (When Father Was Away on Business, Once Upon a Time There was a Country, and others). The band was founded in 1980 by singer Nelle Karajilic and, through rock and roll, endeavored to find the roots of the music of the Balkans. The first record is from 1984, a great success; however on one of their concerts, irony on the part of Nelle at the death of President Tito brought the tour to an end with the records banned from the shops. The band was back in activity in 1986, with guitarrist Emir Kusturica. Super 8 Stories is a road movie among friends that captures all of the atmosphere of the European tour of the group in the year 2000 and the “solo trajectories” of each one of its musicians.
